MINING

Joy Global India Private Limited, formerly part of Joy Global Inc. (USA), is a leading manufacturer and supplier of mining equipment, underground mining machinery, and material handling systems. The company specializes in high-productivity solutions for coal, metal, and industrial mineral mines. Joy Global India supports the Indian mining sector with locally manufactured equipment, advanced engineering, after-sales service, and integrated technology solutions.

Joy Global became part of Komatsu Mining Corp., which strengthened its portfolio in longwall systems, continuous miners, shuttle cars, roof supports, and electric mining loaders. In India, the company continues to serve both underground and surface mining operations with high-reliability systems and OEM spare parts.

EnerSys® make Superhog® Iron-Clad Battery is a heavy-duty, high-capacity traction battery used extensively in underground mining equipment where electric propulsion is preferred for safety and operational efficiency. A 240V / 1085Ah Iron-Clad battery set is commonly used for

  • Battery Electric Underground Mining Vehicles
    • Battery locomotives
    • Shuttle cars
    • Battery-powered haulers
    • Load-haul-dump (LHD) machines (battery-operated variants)
  • Non-Diesel Zones / Non-Gassy Underground Mines
Used where diesel equipment is restricted due to ventilation limitations or regulatory requirements.
  • Continuous Duty, Heavy Traction Work
These batteries supply high current output for long-duty cycles, steep gradients, and frequent starts and stops typical in mining haulage.
Underground Mining Applications

ADVANTAGES IN MINING APPLICATIONS

  • High energy for long runtimes
260.4 kWh capacity supports extended off-grid operation, lighting, communications, instruments, and short-duration heavy loads during outages or peak shaving.
  • High voltage (240 V) reduces DC wiring losses
Higher system voltage means lower current for the same power — smaller conductors, less I²R loss, and simpler integration with inverters/UPS that accept 240 V input.
  • Large Ah (1085 Ah) — suitable for heavy duty / deep-cycle use
designed for long discharge periods and repeated cycling common in mine-site backup, load-levelling, and shuttle/storage systems.
  • Rugged / industrial design (typical for “Ironclad” style packs)
Mechanical robustness: better shock, vibration and dust resistance — important in blasting, vehicle/shuttle vibration, and dusty environments.
  • Better lifecycle economics (if deep-cycle & long-life chemistry) Lower total cost of ownership vs small, frequently replaced batteries: fewer replacements, less maintenance downtime (depends on chemistry and operating conditions).
  • Fast discharge capability for short high-power demands Able to supply surge loads (starter motors, pumps, ventilation fans during restart) without severe voltage sag if spec’d appropriately.
